Twitter to let all users filter tweets for higher 'quality'

Twitter announced the new rules today

It is created to improve the kind of content you'll see in notifications by automatically filtering out tweets based on an account's origin, its actions, and whether it is spam.

"Last year we began testing a quality filter setting and we're now rolling out a feature for everyone", Twitter said in a blog post about the news.

What this means is if a user so chooses, they can put a quality filter on what will appear in their notifications.

Twitter is finally letting all its users filter notifications in order to avoid abuse and harassment.

LEADING OFF: Red Sox on the road again, Taillon breaking out
Perez gave up one earned run in seven innings to take an overdue win, after going 0-4 over his previous eight starts. He was in line to receive the win before the Yankees drove in three runs in the eighth inning.

Since March 2015, Twitter has given verified users on some devices the option of using a "quality filter" to improve the tweets they see: It's essentially an automated moderation tool, which hides tweets that are abusive, threatening or spammy. Similarly, you'll get notifications from people you follow or people you've recently interacted with.

In other Twitter abuse news, the company on Thursday announced it has suspended another 235,000 accounts for violating its anti-terrorism polices. Little detail is given about exactly how the feature works, but Twitter will use various metrics to determine the "quality" of a tweet and then decide whether it's something worthy of appearing in your timeline.

Twitter's leadership has for years struggled to figure out how to handle abuse on the platform.

In a blog post, Twitter says that people who tap or click on the Notifications tab can now limit them just to people they follow.

Rest assured that enabling it shouldn't cause you to miss any messages you actually want to see.
