Pakistan welcomes UN Human Rights team to PoK

Fayaz Aziz Reuters

Pakistan is to "forcefully" present its stance on India's "state terrorism" in Jammu and Kashmir at the upcoming UN General Assembly in NY, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.

Earlier, Pakistan had proposed new talks with the Indian government.

"We will continue to encourage worldwide community to uphold promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the parts of J-K under illegal occupation of Pakistan, and hold the concerned accountable for their violation", said Swarup.

"The only difference this time was that the various messages the Prime Minister had received (from people of PoK, Balochistan and Gilgit) had sufficiently moved him to share it with the people of India", Swarup said. "The Kashmiris are agitating for their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations resolutions, whereas in Balochistan there is only a small group working on the behest of the enemy country".

He said the worldwide community and human rights organisations should call upon India to stop use of "brute force" in Kashmir.

"On this, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah ordered his commander-in-chief to respond by sending troops but he refused (to obey his orders)". Indian response in Indian Occupied Kashmir is an outrageous violation of global human rights and humanitarian laws and deplorable on all counts.

"Access to OHCHR has been denied by India to Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir".

Arsenal fail to capitalise on territorial dominance against champions Leicester
If Leicester drops two games in a row, it could spell their doom at possibly repeating as champs. The only high profile Leicester player to leave the champions is French global , N'gole Kante.

Pakistan said it would welcome any team of human rights observers sent by the United Nations to the part of Kashmir under its control.

This latest incident coincided with the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi given on India's 69th Independence Day in the capital's Red Fort.

However, within days of the agreement, Pakistan insisted that any talks between the national security advisers take up the Kashmir dispute as well. This was followed by a visit to Pakistan by external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who announced the start of a comprehensive bilateral dialogue.

However, the momentum built up in December was disrupted by an attack by Islamist militants on India's Pathankot air force base on 2 January.

The Indian foreign secretary stressed on the need for India to go that extra mile for its neighbours, offering terms of engagement that are attractive to them. "Over here, even 1pc of your agents do not have the support of the people", he said. Problem is that the terrorism issue has become so central to the relationship that it makes the relationship hard to grow.

In his letter, Jaishankar recalled "Pakistan's long history of violence and terrorism against India" - from 1947 to the 1965 war and the Kargil war.
