Ryan Lochte Keeps Sponsors for the as Inquiry Continues

The gas station where Lochte was thought to have taken a taxi from on the night he was'robbed- but now a source said the swimmers had actually destroyed a toilet

Ryan Lochte is in trouble now! A preview of the interview will air tonight on "NBC Nightly News", and more will air Monday, Aug. 22 on TODAY.

A man who helped translate conversations between Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, his teammates and armed security guards at a gas station says a gun wasn't pointed at them during the encounter.

Ostensibly, we will all emerge wiser from this dive into the past, empowered by information and hindsight-or, at the very least, reminded of just how enamored Lochte was with the word "jeah!" back in 2013.

"It's how you want to make it look like, whether you call it a robbery, whether you call it extortion or us paying just for the damages, we don't know", Lochte told Lauer.

But almost as soon as his story came out, an American swimmer gave a different account in a detailed statement, saying two guns were pointed at the athletes as the event unfolded.

Lauer asked what Lochte felt when he saw police remove his teammates from the plane: "You said they didn't damage anything in that gas station..."

"At that point, you're striking a deal", Lauer said. We were all frightened and we wanted to get out of there as quick as possible, and the only way we knew is this guy is saying you have to give them money. "The first version of the story you told, Ryan, was about the mean streets of Rio", said Lauer.

Idaho unemployment rate edges up to 3.8%
The largest declines were in Arkansas and Tennessee (-1.3 percentage points each), followed by West Virginia (-1.2 points). Even with the seasonal adjustment, the unemployment rate went from 4.9 percent in June to 5 percent in July.

"That's why I'm taking full responsibility", he said. If I never did that, we wouldn't be in this mess.

"There was a gun pointed in our direction". He said that he was still under the influence of alcohol when he talked to Bush.

Then, three days after the alleged robbery, as Brazilian police were already casting doubts on the claims, Lochte altered his story slightly in an off-camera interview with Lauer, saying the robbery actually occurred at a gas station and that the gun had not been pointed at his forehead.

He said he hoped to continue competitive swimming but acknowledged that it won't be his decision about whether he'd be able to be part of the American team again. The gossip mills were immediately abuzz-this story was, after all, perfectly plausible in crime-ridden Rio-but Mark Adams of the International Olympic Committee swiftly denied the story.

Lochte said he regretted how the incident had tarnished Rio and the last week of the Olympics. Lochte also gave an interview to Globo, one of the biggest television networks in Brazil.

Srour said Brazilian judges are notorious for pursuing cases such as Lochte's if charges are filed and that Brazilian authorities could use Interpol and other worldwide organizations to complicate his overseas travel. "I am sorry that my immaturity caused all this ruckus".
