'South Park' mocks anthem controversy in season premiere

Colin Kaepernick, a reserve quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, caused a huge controversy during the preseason by not standing during the familiar "O say can you see" song.

The anthem protest is a personal moment in which an individual decides whether to peacefully demonstrate disapproval of social injustice. And while the usual suspects are up in arms over Obama's remarks, more and more professional athletes are joining Kaepernick's anthem protest.

Kaepernick has the right to say what he wants, said Thomas Holland, 72, who identifies as white.

"Respecting the flag is the minimum expression of gratitude the NFL can offer the public for the great wealth and privilege the players and the league enjoy", Jackson said in an email about the petition. I tell them the same thing. Kaepernick has been outspoken about the "stand" he is taking.

Citing its rule, former NBA commissioner David Stern suspended former LSU and star Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (Chris Jackson) in 1996 for sitting down during the national anthem when he played for the Denver Nuggets. I can understand why veterans especially find Kaepernick's protest offensive.

I think the Founding Fathers put that in the Constitution so people - athletes or whoever - can speak up when they think something is wrong with the United States.

CDC May Lift Zika Travel Advisory for Miami Neighborhood
But the full extent of Haiti's Zika outbreak and the number of accompanying neurological disorders remains a big unknown. More than 30 pregnant women are among the victims.

High-school football players in New Jersey, Alabama and MA, replicating Kaepernick's stand, are facing suspension from school, harassment from their peers and even, they claim, threats against their physical well-being.

Don't we live in the land of the free?

"All this time, I've been posting on Facebook: Respect our flag, respect our national anthem".

"I support it", Bobo mentioned. Kaepernick was benched midseason a year ago after completing just 59 percent of his passes for 1,615 yards with six touchdowns to five interceptions, but many believed he could excel in Kelly's up-tempo offense.

In Rockford, Illinois, some football players at Auburn High took a knee during the anthem and the school saw it as a teachable moment. "To me, this is something that has to change, and when there's significant change - and I feel like that flag represents what it's supposed to represent, and this country is representing people the way it's supposed to - I'll stand", said Kaepernick.
