Gas prices in South rise after pipeline spill

Over the weekend, some gas stations in metro Atlanta and north Georgia reported running out of gas, according to CNN Money.

One week and counting after the spill of thousands of barrels of gasoline from an Alabama pipeline, it is becoming increasingly hard to transport fuel from refineries in the South to service stations on the East Coast-which could cause fuel prices across much of America to rise, according to experts.

"I'm from California, and gas there is outrageous", driver Frances Jefferson said. According to Colonial, the bypass would allow the pipeline to resume gasoline deliveries to impacted areas by the end of the week. Tanker trucks like those used to haul fuel were parked around the property, where gasoline removed from the spill has been stored, and a steady stream of trucks came and went through the gate.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed an executive order on Monday preventing gas stations from significantly raising their fuel prices.

Colonial Pipeline says it is beginning construction of a temporary pipeline that will bypass the leaking section of its main gasoline pipeline in Shelby County, Alabama. The Colonial Pipeline has said it anticipates reopening the line later this week with the bypass in use, but it remains unclear how quickly they will be able to fix Line 1.

"Due to a leak in a critical fuel pipeline in Alabama, which is now undergoing repairs, Georgia and other states have experienced interruptions in motor fuel supply", Deal said in the press release.

Snowden says will vote in US presidential election
Snowden , who, while in Russian Federation is a director at Freedom of The Press , rejected multiple points of the report. Edward Snowden , exiled to Moscow after leaking classified documents, is to vote in the USA presidential election.

Still, some motorists discovered bone-dry pumps. As of 6 p.m. Monday, the Kroger Gas Station on Killian was out of gas. She said she was on empty, "so I'm going to have to figure something out".

The more than 330,000 gallon leak discovered September 9 was in the Colonial Pipeline, which runs from Houston, Texas to NY. It's unclear when the spill actually began.

Colonial Pipeline went on to state: "In an effort to minimize supply disruptions, last week Colonial Pipeline gathered gasoline from Gulf Coast refiners in order to ship supplies on its distillate line to markets throughout the affected region".

The average price of gas in the state is about $2.16 - $2.19 in Henderson, according to GasBuddy - up from last week's average of $2.05, according to AAA Carolinas. Despite the recent increases, both of the Carolinas are still seeing gas prices under the national average of $2.20. If the fuel shortages and price spikes reach Connecticut, Curry said the first to experience those effects would be unbranded service stations. He just returned from a road trip to Louisiana, where he helped people after the floods there, he said.

In another report an employee at QuickTrip, a convenience station, said they have been dry since Saturday and they don't expect to get refueled until Wednesday or Thursday.

Pump prices in Alabama ticked up to $2.01 on Monday while prices in Tennessee rose almost 3 cents to $2.13 from $2.10 on Sunday, according to the AAA.
