Trump administration imposes fresh Iran-related sanctions

The Treasury Department posted a listing on Friday, naming the individuals and the companies added to the sanctions list.

It also slapped sanctions on a key support network run by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF) and working with Hizballah, including IRGC-QF official Hasan Deghan Ebrahimi, his two associates, and several affiliated companies in Lebanon.

Despite the tough talk, the new sanctions represent a continuation of the Obama administration's limited punishment for Iran's ballistic missile activity and avoid a direct showdown with Tehran over the nuclear deal itself.

Iran insists its missile test was only for defensive purposes and not a violation of the U.N. Security Council 2231 resolution or the nuclear deal with Western powers.

"We will continue to actively apply all available tools, including financial sanctions, to address this behavior", he said.

Mr. President, what do you mean when you say Iran is "on notice?".

But Iran has said it will not yield to "useless" American threats from "an inexperienced person".

Iran maintains the missile can not carry a nuclear warhead and the test was not in violation of the United Nations resolution.

Vietnam manufacturing PMI drops to 51.9 in January
Manufacturers have responded with an increase in selling prices, which may in turn begin to drive consumer price inflation. The expansion was underpinned by a solid increase in new order intakes, mainly from the domestic market.

A US State Department official told Reuters: "As standard policy, we do not preview sanction decisions before they are announced".

"Iranian leaders must feel sufficient pressure to cease deeply destabilizing activities, from sponsoring terrorist groups to continued testing of ballistic missiles", the group wrote. "Not me!" Trump tweeted.

The series of actions by the Trump administration could have bearings on North Korea.

Flynn said that instead of being thankful to the United States for the nuclear deal, "Iran is now feeling emboldened".

"Today's action is part of Treasury's ongoing efforts to counter Iranian malign activity overseas that is outside the scope of the JCPOA", Treasury said, a reference to the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on January 31 and referred the matter to its committee on Iran for an investigation.

When asked about a potential military response to Iran by the U.S., Spicer noted President Trump never takes anything off the table.
