That was fast: Puzder's out as nominee for Labor secretary

Why Trump and Netanyahu might keep Iran nuclear deal after all

In a statement, Puzder said he made the decision to withdraw after careful consideration and discussions with his family.

During one of his confirmation hearings, Puzder confirmed that he and his wife had employed an undocumented housekeeper for years. Puzder has also advocated creating a path to legal status for undocumented workers living in the USA, which is also believed to be a cause of concern for many Republican senators - up to 12 of whom were considering voting against Puzder before his announcement, CNN reported.

Fast food executive Andrew Puzder revealed Wednesday he is withdrawing his nomination to serve as Labor Secretary under President Donald Trump.

Puzder has caused controversy for remarks on women and people who work for his restaurants, which include Hardee's and Carl's Jr., as well as his failure to pay taxes for five years on a former housekeeper who wasn't authorized to work in the USA, the Associated Press reported.

Puzder, 66, who was scheduled for a confirmation hearing Thursday, has come under fire from Democrats and Republicans over personal concerns and his leadership at CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Hardee's and Carl's Jr. But the last straws may have been a lawsuit brought by his workers for labor violations and an unearthed film of Puzder's ex-wife on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1990, alleging that he had abused her and had "vowed revenge" for exposing him.

YouTube Go Downloads Videos For Offline Viewing, Saves Your Data Plan
It has a streaming catalog of over 30 million songs and lets users save up to 50,000 songs from their own collection on the app . Downloading the videos is another advantage and that can be done either to the internal storage of the phone or to the SD card.

In the Business Insider interview, Puzder said he was open to automation in his restaurants, especially with the rising cost of employees due to increases in minimum wage.

In addition to the GOP members of the HELP committee, Republican Sens. Many Republicans had said they were troubled by his acknowledgement that he had not paid taxes on the housekeeper until after Trump nominated him to the Cabinet post December 9 - five years after he had fired the worker. "I think he's uniquely qualified for this job", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday.

"The fact that someone so anti-labor was even nominated shows how far President Trump is from where he campaigned", Schumer said. As Salon's Matthew Rozsa reported, it became apparent his nomination was in peril Wednesday when four Republican senators announced they would not vote to confirm Puzder. The Trump administration has yet to name a new nominee for either position.

"Outside groups spent upwards of $10 million to support other controversial nominees, but there was no paid or well-coordinated outside effort to defend Puzder's record or push back on attacks by the labor unions against Puzder's record", he said.
