Baby dies when 911 calls go unanswered

Tragic loss Brandon Alex died at six months on Saturday after he fell from a bed and his baby sitter could not reach 911 to summon help

According to CNN, city officials are pointing the finger at some kind of T-Mobile network bug that's clogging the city's emergency call lines with "spontaneous", multiple calls.

He wonders if his problems getting through to 911 on the night of March 6 contributed to his husbands death.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said in a statement that it was "outrageous" T-Mobile had not yet resolved the glitch. City officials have been bringing in additional staff on overtime to try to keep up with the call load.

"As you can well imagine this situation is very frustrating", he said, adding, "This is the No. 1 priority we're facing right now as a city". The baby sitter said she called 911 three times but kept being placed on hold. This isn't the first time T-Mobile has faced 911 issues; in 2015, it was fined $17.5 million by the FCC for nationwide 911 outages. Her friend hung up and performed CPR then called again at 5:57 p.m. and stayed on hold for 9 minutes, Alex said.

Brandon's babysitter said the boy had fallen off a daybed and was barely breathing while she tried to reach 911.

Late Thursday afternoon, the city said T-Mobile has made progress in identifying the 911 problem.

Brandon's mother sped home and took him to a hospital for surgery. David Taffet lost his spouse Brian Cross after it took 911 operators 20 minutes to return his call.

Extent of Oklahoma Wildfires Seen From Plane
Forest Service spokesman Phillip Truitt said as many as four firefighters were hurt battling the fires Monday. The woman suffered a heart attack while helping her husband fight a fire in Harper County.

"I don't want to start hearing about more people dying as a result of people waiting to get through for help", Taffet said.

"The last time she called, they had her on hold for 31 minutes", Alex said. She waited on hold for 55 seconds and hung up. The problem has been traced to T-Mobile phones, which sometimes spontaneously dial 911. No 911 operator called back, as protocol requires.

Rawlings said city leaders have had "long and frank conversations" about the ghost calls with T-Mobile executives.

Police are investigating whether the issue led to the death of Brandon Alex on Saturday.

"I want them to take responsibility of my son's death".

The update did not explain why the call surges are happening, but the city is adding more people to answer the phones. After WFAA contacted the city about Brandon's death, Broadnax reached out directly to the CEO of T-Mobile. "Because at the end of the day, my son was still breathing, but had y'all come out like y'all were supposed to, my son would still be here in my arms".
