Timing for House Vote on GOP Health Plan Could be Fluid

Trump's Not Led Down a Path by Anyone

A Congressional Budget Office analysis last week said a 64-year-old with income of $26,500 would pay $1,700 out of pocket for insurance under the Affordable Care Act, compared with $14,600 under the GOP plan.

The Republican governors of Ohio, Nevada, Michigan and Arkansas on March 16 penned a letter to Congress stating their opposition to the American Health Care Act, the Republican plan to replace the ACA.

The letter, addressed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan said the AHCA "does not ensure the resources necessary to make sure no one is left out, and shifts significant new costs to states", according to the report.

"We are making fine-tuning improvements to the bill to reflect people's concerns, to reflect people's improvements", he said.

"We think we should be offering even more assistance than the bill now does", Ryan said yesterday of the bill's proposed tax-credit structure.

Senator Rand Paul vowed to vote "No" on a Republican-backed plan to repeal-and-replace the Affordable Care Act, adding that he doesn't now think the GOP has enough votes to pass the legislation that he calls "Obamacare Lite".

Top EU court rules companies can ban wearing of religious symbols
In Achbita's case , the European Union court said that the prohibition must cover "only G4S workers who interact with customers". In many member states, national laws will still recognise that banning religious headscarves at work is discrimination.

Asked about the likelihood of passage, Ryan said, "I feel very good about it, actually".

"I can not vote for any bill that keeps premiums rising", Cruz said.

Ryan said that proposed changes to the health-care system that would occur outside of the bill also would lower payments. "I believe that the real negotiation begins when we stop them". I do think ultimately that we are on the same page in that we want repeal of Obamacare. Right now, Republicans have only 52.

"I don't think they have the votes now", Paul told Cavuto later. Ted Cruz of Texas said Sunday he wouldn't vote for it as is. Trump's plan, for instance, would cut $5.8 billion from the National Institutes of Health, an 18 percent drop for the $32 billion agency that funds much of the nation's research into what causes different diseases and what it will take to treat them. To the extent that a change in tax credits makes healthcare more affordable for some people, insurers and hospitals could stand to benefit.

Brady said GOP leaders are still working on different options for how best to provide additional aide to people in their 50s and early 60s, indicating that might not be resolved in the manager's amendment and that such aid may not come in the form of a more generous tax credit.
