North Korea accuses US, South Korea of assassination attempt

"We didn't cross the "red line" of the (North Korea)-China relationship", the commentary in Rodong Sinmun said, as quoted by CNN.

According to CNN, North Korean state news agency KCNA uncovered a "hideous" plot by a terrorist group that attempted to kill the supreme leader.

It said North Korea would find and "mercilessly destroy" the terrorists.

Does the U.S. want to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un?

The North Korean statement said the plan had "been put into the extremely serious phase of implementation".

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have been high for weeks, with North Korea poised for a potential sixth nuclear test or a test-launch of another ballistic missile in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.

North Korea stands accused of assassinating Kim Jong Nam, Kim's estranged half brother, with a banned chemical weapon at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in February.

But refusing to crack down on North leads to a North Korea racing toward its nuclear finish-line, USA military build-up in Northeast Asia, and even a direct military conflict with the United States, the expert said.

Midwest, South brace for flooding and tornadoes
They cut a huge swath of destruction across the East Texas town of Canton and neighboring Van Zandt County communities. Tornadoes and flooding kill at least 14 as unsafe weather hammered parts of the midwest and the south.

North Korea arrested a man it called a South Korean spy a year ago for allegedly sneaking into the North to abduct North Korean children.

There is a quiet effort underway to tone down any military rhetoric that could lead to North Korea viewing the Pentagon as warmongering, several United States military officials have told CNN. North Korea equated the plot to an "armed invasion" and vowed revenge.

China's Global Times newspaper retorted that the nuclear-armed North was in the grip of "some form of irrational logic" over its weapons programmes.

In July a year ago, North Korea presented to the media a man it alleged was a South Korean spy who tried to enter the North to kidnap children.

The Trump administration has called for exerting "maximum pressure" on North Korea to prod it to give up its nuclear and missile programs.

The U.S. Embassy in Seoul and South Korea's National Intelligence Service were not immediately available for comment.

North Korean and Chinese media were at loggerheads on Thursday after Pyongyang's official news agency issued a rare and stinging denunciation of its chief ally and diplomatic backer.

In a bid to cut off Pyongyang's access to hard currency, the measure sanctions persons or entities that import North Korean coal, iron or iron ore beyond UN-imposed limits, or that facilitate the regime's online business activities. Bullet holes are still visible on a tree above the presidential Blue House.
