Women's Golf Tied for Third after NCAA Lubbock Regional's First Round

The Murray State Racers left room for improvement after Monday's first round at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship at the Lubbock, Texas regional.

The Trojans, who battled winds with the final group of schools finishing late today, combined for a 7-over 295, tied with Pac-12 rivals California and Washington, the teams 8 back of upstart Pepperdine and five behind conference foe Stanford.

Outside of Arizona State the teams now in position to advance are OR (+6) in second place, Texas Tech (+8) and UCLA (+8) are tied for third, BYU (+9) is fifth while San Diego State (+10) sits in fifth.

Baylor has a two-stroke lead on the cut to make the top six teams to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Former USC star Will Starke fired a 7-under-par 65 Monday at the DeBordieu Club to head the field in local qualifying for the U.S. Open. Cara Barker ended the day 4-over par and is tied for 36th place.

Domenic Mancinelli led GVSU with a 69 (-3) in the first round, putting up four birdies and thirteen pars as he now sits in an eight-way tie for 14th place. Raeysha Surendran had an eagle-two on the par-4 11th hole and posted a 78 to share 61st place with teammate Holmslykke.

Hatch (Mukilteo, WA/Kamiak) was in complete control of his round carding a bogey-free round while recording three birdies and one eagle.

With plenty of golf still to go, the Wildcats are in 16th place heading into Tuesday's second round. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is taking place at the par -72, 6,593-yard Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.

"We had a solid start", UF coach Emily Glaser said.

"I am happy to have some momentum as a team in the postseason", said Metraux. "We just need to stay strong and get better every day".

Bogeys on No. 1 and No. 5 dropped her to even par. Sophomore Mami Yamamoto shot 3-over par with a score of 75 and is tied for 26th, according to Golfstat.

OSU's Alexis Sadeghy carded four birdies and is tied in 14th place at 1-over 73.

The Blue Devils didn't start teeing off Monday until approximately 9:20 a.m. local time. "I think it's going to come down to the wire with a lot of these teams".
