Even as many businesses are anxious about hackers taking control of their computers as part of the worldwide WannaCry ransomware crisis, the Walt Disney Co. may be facing a slightly different ransom situation of its own. Hackers leaked episodes of the new season after Netflix refused to meet their demands. They then made a decision to release the next nine episodes "after many lengthy discussions at the office where alcohol was present, " according to a press release from the hackers obtained by Heavy.

In 2004, hackers attacked Sony Pictures and released executives' embarrassing emails as the studio was preparing to release comedy "The Interview", which involves a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. He says that "attribution is probably the hardest thing the Federal Bureau of Investigation is dealing with here".

It's unsure if the same hackers are behind the Disney incident. The hackers have however threatened to release increasingly longer pieces of the movie online if they aren't paid. The last four installments in the franchise have been huge successes for Disney, collectively grossing almost $3.73 billion worldwide.
