Rebel Wilson tells court Australian articles hurt her career

A defamation trial between Rebel Wilson and the publishers of Woman's Day is due to begin on Monday

On Monday, Wilson was in the Supreme Court in Melbourne accompanied by her sister Anna, 25, for the start of the three-week trial.

However, Bauer is standing by the articles saying they are true and, in any case, the allegations were "trivial" and unlikely to cause Wilson any harm to her career or financially.

A series of articles published to coincide with the release of global smash hit Pitch Perfect 2 in May 2015 left the expat Aussie jobless and unable to land a film role.

In the Supreme Court of Victoria on Tuesday, Wilson described how a hallucination she'd had about winning an Oscar while she was feverish with malaria had prompted her to become an actor.

The 37-year-old told the jury she was born Melanie but had always been known as Rebel, and she legally changed her name to Rebel in 2002.

Other actors including Hugh Sheridan and Kate Jenkinson are apparently due in court to give evidence on behalf of Wilson. The publisher's lawyer, Georgina Schoff, claimed that the pieces were factual and explained, "They weren't nasty articles".

The trial continues, with Rebel expected to take to the witness stand later this week.

"These articles were a deliberate malicious take-down of me", the actress said as she wiped away tears, according to the Press Association.

Her "world collapsed" after their publication, her lawyer said.

'Will enact divorce law for Muslims'
He also reiterated that triple talaq was a "non-issue" which does not require judicial scrutiny. " Triple talaq is unlawful". The bench had asked Khurshid if triple talaq was India- specific and what had led to its repeal in other countries.

The court also heard that Ms Wilson had lost acting opportunities because of the articles.

The story Woman's Day "tore down Rebel to sell magazines" first appeared on The Sydney Morning Herald.

She claims that after the 2015 "campaign", she was sacked from a number of movie roles, work offers dried up, and that she suffered physically and emotionally.

Wilson then tweeted about the journalist, stating "here she is, total scum", but got the woman's identity wrong.

It had been standing room only when Rebel Wilson walked in.

"I'm not a professional rapper", she was moved to note at another point, after retelling a story involving hallucinating rap-performances.

Real Rebel worked to suppress her own grin. Rebel Wilson at a dog show.

Ms Wilson flashed her trademark smile and nearly looked the part in this new court drama.

"To stand up there like that, " she said.
