Trump records robocall for Montana special election

Trump Budget With $3.6 Trillion in Cuts Hurts Supporters

Bernie Sanders and Republican Vice President Mike Pence will have minimal effect given the number of people who have already voted. The race is Quist's first foray into politics, but the native Montanan has decades of name recognition from years of performing his folksy tunes around the state.

Republican strategists say they're anxious that the race has tightened, while national Democrats say their polling shows the race has remained out of reach. Gianforte was the only Republican in Montana to lose that day.

The lead once enjoyed by Republican contender Greg Gianforte "has diminished in polling so much that it's miniscule", Jeremy Johnson, an associate professor of political science at Carroll College in the state capital Helena, told AFP. But Given Trump's lack of popularity, Democrats are looking to this spring's special elections to score some wins, including the special election in Montana.

The Quist campaign headed to Bozeman on Sunday morning. As she shows off her llama herd, she explains that she moved to Montana "to be close to wild nature" and so "I feel very strongly about protecting public lands".

"The eyes of the country are on the great state of Montana", Sanders told a crowd of 3,000 at the Butte Civic Center on Saturday. "People are asking, can a rural state - a small population - can people come together to take on the big-money interests that divide this country?"

On a related note, Quist's closing message goes after the Republican health care plan for gutting protections for those with pre-existing conditions, while delivering a tax cut for the wealthy.

Quist's main opponent in Thursday's election is Republican Greg Gianforte, who has campaigned for repealing the ACA, also known as "Obamacare".

The Northern Cheyenne Tribe endorsed Quist at the Billings rally.

Tides may be turning for Democrats. Republicans got in fright in April when they had to scramble to avoid a loss in deeply conservative Kansas.

Canadian connection: Drake meets Celine Dion at Billboards
Drake has made a habit of skipping awards shows in recent years - even the 2016 Grammys, for which he was a top-nominated artist. But the singer, who is engaged to Liam Hemsworth, couldn't hide her emotion by the end when her eyes teared up.

But a surprisingly close race won't ease Republicans' growing nerves about the 2018 midterms - and if Democrats pull off a huge upset that could set off alarm bells in the GOP.

"The first thing we're going to do is we're going to work with Donald Trump", Mr. Gianforte said.

The two main candidates could hardly be more at odds.

Quist's characterization of the bill isn't entirely accurate, and the U.S. Senate likely will make substantial changes before passing it. Both Gianforte and Quist have fought to portray themselves as the true representative of Montana values. Groups supporting Gianforte have spent $356,476. "I've spent my life creating jobs here and giving back into the communities".

"This race will go down to the wire, but we are confident that Rob will be Montana's next congressman".

He used a bit of his fortune to finance an unsuccessful try for governor, antagonizing even some fellow Republicans who saw a heavy-handed attempt to buy his way into political office.

Another special election, in Georgia on June 20, is also going down to the wire. Jon Ossoff received 46.1 percent of the votes, just shy of the 50 percent needed to win the seat outright. The administration on Tuesday released its federal budget.

"There's been so much money thrown at this race - it's the most expensive race in Montana's history and the shortest race in Montana's history - [that] it's reached a saturation point", said Montana GOP Sen. Medicaid expansion was initially denied by the Legislature in 2013 before being expanded two years ago, making about 70,000 Montanans eligible for government-supported health insurance. Of the 352,867 absentee ballots mailed out, 226,554 had been returned, according to the latest figures from the Montana Secretary of State's website. The seat opened up after Xavier Becerra resigned to become California's attorney general.
