G7 leaders divided on climate change, closer on trade issues

President Donald Trump delayed the United States's commitment to fight climate change through an ambitious global agreement that his counterparts in the group of G7 nations eagerly adopted.

Formally, the communique says the U.S.is "in the process of reviewing its policies on climate change and on the Paris Agreement", while the other six countries affirmed a "strong commitment" to the Paris deal. Leaders of the other G7 nations - Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Japan - issued a communique confirming their support for the climate deal, which was reached with contributions from Barack Obama in 2015 and signed the following year.

During his campaign preceding the 2016 election, Trump summed up his stance on combating emissions by telling a SC crowd, "I want to use hair spray".

Trump has repeatedly called global warming a hoax, while he pledged on the campaign trail to cancel the Paris "bad deal".

Angela Merkel, the current Chancellor of Germany, specifically mentioned how other G7 countries lobbied Trump to keep America in the Paris Agreement, which was implemented to cut back on carbon emissions. "There are no indications whether the United States will stay in the Paris Agreement or not". "And he came here to learn and he came here to get smarter".

Yet several key people, including Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt have been told the decision has been made.

National Football League approves rule changes, tweaks overtime and celebration penalties
Tampa originally finished as runner-up in the bidding for 2020 - one reason why owners backed the move unanimously. Police said the circumstances surrounding his death are still unknown but that there's nothing suspicious.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who is also in Sicily for the meeting, earlier said that the accord would survive regardless of Mr Trump's position.

One thing president Trump could do - and, likely, will do very soon - is put a stake through the heart of the "climate-change" "consensus". Trump has said he'll make a final decision as soon as next week.

Donald Trump walks for a group photo after the Outreach Session during the G7 Summit. In preparations for the Trump-Macron lunch in Brussels, the White House team told its French counterpart to limit the meal to no more than an hour and 15 minutes. The announcement on the final day of the US president's first global trip comes after he declined to commit to staying in the sweeping climate deal, resisting intense worldwide pressure from his peers at the summit. "His basis for decision is ultimately going to be what's best for the United States".

Trump made it through the grueling trip without a major diplomatic incident - despite a close call in Israel, where he volunteered to reporters that he'd never uttered the country's name as the source of intelligence he reportedly shared with Russian officials during an Oval Office visit.

Some climate diplomats say the rest of the world may be growing tired of the U.S. back-and-forth on climate change policy.
