Young IAS official tries to rescue lady colleague, drowns in pool

Delhi IAS officer found dead in swimming pool in Ber Sarai club

Ashish Dahiya, 30, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana, drowned in the swimming pool of the Foreign Service Institute at Ber Sarai in south Delhi during a Monday night party attended by around 30 young officers, police said. Dahiya was rushed to Fortis Hospital but was declared "dead on arrival" at 12:50 pm. At some point, they reportedly chose to go for a swim in the institute's pool.

Guests at the party had reportedly consumed alcohol.

Eyewitnesses claimed that a woman officer slipped and fell into the pool and many, including Dahiya, jump in to rescue her. Although the woman was successfully pulled out to safety, it was then noticed that Ashish was missing. "He was found floating in the pool soon after", said Chinmoy Biswal, Additional DCP (South). A medical officer was called and attempts were made to revive him.

Demanding a CBI probe, Dahiya's father Narender Singh said his son was an experienced swimmer. Dahiya was supposed to join J&K IMPARD for Institutional Training tomorrow but sadly the state could not take benefit of his experience and expertise.

The Chief Minister has conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved family particularly wife of Ashish Dahiya and prayed for his eternal solace.
