Putin urges US business to help normalize Russia-US ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said that he thought there was still time to reach an agreement on the landmark 2015 global agreement to fight climate change deal despite US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the worldwide climate policy.

While much of the discussion in Saint Petersburg was dominated by politics Putin also attempted to burnish Russia's economic prospects as it inches its way out of the longest recession in two decades sparked by a slump in oil prices and Western sanctions over Ukraine.

Kislyak's meetings with members of Trump's team have been a focus of the congressional investigation. Trump fired Comey days later despite an ongoing FBI investigation into Trump's campaign for possible collusion with Russian Federation.

US intelligence agencies have accused Russian Federation of hacking into Democratic Party emails, helping US President Donald Trump's election victory, and the congressional and FBI investigations into the Trump campaign's ties with Russian Federation have broken the Kremlin's hopes for a detente with Washington.

Putin said Thursday that "patriotic" Russians could have been involved, but covered their tracks to make it seem like the operation was run by the Russian government.

Kushner met with the ambassador, Sergei Kislyak, in early December, and suggested establishing a secure communications line between the Kremlin and Trump officials at a Russian diplomatic facility, according to US officials who reviewed intelligence reports describing Kislyak's account.

"What else the ambassador is supposed to do?" "There were no agreements".

China's Li: fighting climate change is 'global consensus'
Other European leaders issued more explicit appeals to the US government not to abandon worldwide measures against climate change. Mr Li said he believed the two had found a solution on the issue of Chinese quotas for electric cars after a lengthy discussion.

"Does squabbling over North Atlantic Treaty Organisation help Russian Federation?" he said.

"Now we should come out of good terrorism, bad terrorism (debate); my terrorist, your terrorist (syndrome)".

Mr Putin also said that he wouldn't judge Mr Trump's decision to pull the USA out of the Paris climate accord, but that America would have had a better bargaining position to change the accord if the country had stayed in the deal. "We didn't even start negotiations". "It will if it leads to Nato's breakup, but we aren't seeing any such breakup yet".

Although Putin has claimed that climate change is not man-made, Russian Federation is a party to the Paris accord.

At the same time, the Russian president pointed out that "it was possible not to withdraw from the Paris Agreement because it is a framework document so the United States' obligations could have been changed".

"Now, we could blame this all on American imperialism, that it's all their fault", he continued.
