Phil Mickelson to miss US Open due to family commitment

Mickelson to miss US Open for daughter's graduation

World Golf Hall-of-Famer Phil Mickelson has announced he will likely forego a spot in the upcoming U.S. Open at Erin Hills in order to attend his daughter's high school graduation in California, which is scheduled the same day as the tournament's first round.

Mickelson is now putting the final touches on his third round at the Memorial Tournament, hovering just inside the top 25, and he's also set to play in next week's FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee.

He said Amanda is the school president and the valedictorian. She'll be giving the commencement speech for the school and I'm going to be there,"Mickelson told reporters after the third round of the Memorial tournament in Dublin, Ohio".

"As I look back on life, this is a moment I'll always cherish and be glad I was present", said Mickelson, who will turn 47 the day after the graduation.

Mickelson said he had notified the US Golf Association of his decision well in advance so that the organising body as well as his replacement would not be caught off guard. Something might come up with the commencement, the weather, something unforeseen, but it doesn't look very good.

NHL Playoffs 2017: Ducks injuries cause for concern
We've got to move forward, and there's a lot of trust and belief inside of our room that we can be successful". "That's for sure. They always catch the retaliation, and on the ensuing power play, Nashville finally made the Ducks pay for their transgression.

"There's no sense in withdrawing today but I want the alternate to know", Mickelson said, still holding out a glimmer of hope he will be able to play.

The 46-year-old is running out of chances to complete the career grand slam, making the decision more hard.

Phil Mickelson, seen here in the final round of the 2013 U.S. Open, has been runner-up six times. "It wasn't really something that we discussed, because it really wasn't much of a decision".

Mickelson has appeared in every U.S. Open that he's been eligible for since he joined the PGA Tour in 1994.
