US will stay in fight against climate change, vows California governor

Joint pledges by China and the U.S. ahead of the Paris talks helped create the momentum required to secure a global agreement and included a promise by China to establish a nationwide emissions trading exchange by this year.

Veteran China reporter John Pomfret tweeted the news yesterday, citing unnamed sources which said that Rank "couldn't back Trump on climate" and had found himself unable to deliver a formal notification to the Chinese government regarding the U.S. withdrawal from the global accord.

Rank was serving in China when President Xi Jinping and then-US President Barrack Obama jointly declared their commitment to the Paris agreement, which has been signed by 195 countries and ratified by 147.

Mr. Trump announced America's withdrawal from a global climate change pact last week.

But his decision to do so last week was met with much criticism worldwide. Trump argued that the Paris agreement favors emerging economies such as China's and India's at the expense of USA workers.

Rank had been with the department for 27 years and served as the political councilor at the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012.

My heart goes out to the family of Rick Best. "We didn't want him with us", Joey Gibson , the rally's organizer, told CNN . During the arraignment yesterday, the accused shouted, you call it terrorism, I call it patriotism.

"We deem the momentum generated in Paris in December 2015 irreversible, and we firmly believe that the Paris agreement can not be renegotiated since it is a vital instrument for our planet, societies and economies", said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni and French president Emmanuel Macron.

Brown signed similar collaboration agreements over the past several days with leaders in two Chinese provinces, Jiangsu and Sichuan. They call for investments in low-carbon energy sources, cooperation on climate research and the commercialization of cleaner technologies.

US Energy Secretary Rick Perry is also due to attend this week's energy meeting in Beijing. China is by far the world's largest user of coal, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of its energy use and has made it the number one emitter of climate-changing greenhouse gases.

Trump claims the treaty was negotiated poorly and puts the United States at an economic disadvantage.

Beijing has said it will stick with the agreement despite the USA withdrawal.
