Kane rescues draw for England against Scotland in qualifying

England's Jake Livermore and Scotland's Andrew Robertson battle for the ball during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying Group F match at Hampden Park Glasgow

Harry Kane's stoppage-time equalizer rescued a 2-2 draw for England against Scotland in a World Cup qualifier after a pair of late Leigh Griffiths free kicks looked to have completed a dramatic comeback on Saturday.

On a sun-kissed Glasgow afternoon, England took the lead in the 70th minute when substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's left-foot strike beat home goalkeeper Craig Gordon's flimsy attempt at a save.

But Kane stunned the crowd two minutes into injury time when he volleyed home a flawless pass from Raheem Sterling, a goal that prevented what would have been England's first World Cup qualifying loss since a defeat to Ukraine in 2009.

"It (the goal) is definitely up at the top, it was a special day", Kane said on ITV1.

"To be 2-1 down in stoppage time and get that goal is special".

The striker scored in injury time to break Scottish hearts after a Leigh Griffiths double had put Scotland within seconds of a historic win and three vital World Cup qualifying points. "We have got talent coming through and they need opportunities".

"All of the senior team were crammed around the laptop watching it as we finished training in France. Joe Hart was never going to play both games", said former England worldwide Danny Mills on the BBC. Even as I was doing well with my club he was giving me a little phone call or text to say "things could change for you as you play more and get bigger". They were like a heavyweight boxer and we were middleweight, which we expected.

Cavs not looking to slow down pace of Finals with Warriors
The Warriors committed 20 turnovers in Game 2 but simply shook that off with an NBA Finals-record 18 3-pointers in a 132-113 romp. No team in National Basketball Association playoff history has rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.

Berra admits the Scotland dressing-room at Hampden Park was a miserable place after Saturday's draw with England.

"But Harry Kane does what Harry Kane does best by scoring right at the death and costing us the three points".

"And that's what was so good about Griff, to put the work he put in, and then to have a free-kick when you are exhausted at the end of the game and be able to execute it, was phenomenal".

Strachan also hailed his team's character as fourth-placed Scotland missed the chance to inflict a first Hampden defeat on England since 1985 while dropping two Group F points. I think there is great potential, there is a desire on their part, they are showing pride in playing for the shirt but of course we have an enormous journey to go on to match teams who have already won World Cups and European Championships with players who are Champions League winners regularly and used to playing in the highest games.

"We are in a great position to qualify and with four games to go we feel should win all of them". I don't think he did much all game. "It got us back into contention and if we can perform like we did in that match, then we will certainly cause England a few problems".

He said: "We have a lot of competition in the more advanced positions in midfield but we've not got great cover in deeper positions in that department".

Southgate was particularly pleased that his players had shown exactly the kind of approach he had demanded from them during their team talks in the week's build-up.
