Officers shoot, killed knife-wielding pregnant woman

On Monday, investigators released a four-minute audio clip of the officers involved before they arrived at Charleena Lyle's home to take the report.

A few moments later, officers are heard shouting for Lyles to "Get back!"

"There were several children inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured", a police statement read. A cousin of a mother who was shot and killed by Seattle police has questioned why officers didn't use a Taser or other non-lethal options during the encounter.

"After talking with Lyles' family, we learned that Lyles had experienced a recent sudden and rapid decline in her mental health", Lim wrote in the incident report obtained by KIRO. In a previous study, 70 percent of African Americans reported feeling incidents of police misconduct are handled poorly in the USA, compared to just 27 percent of whites. SPD officers are given the option of carrying a Taser, pepper spray or a baton as a less-than-lethal option.

Court records show police were last at the housing complex for a call involving Lyles on June 5, and noted the case should proceed to a mental health court.

Before arriving, police were told of an increased risk to officers.

"We would expect that the Seattle Police Department would deploy people with the right training and the right protocol to unarm, disarm someone that has a knife", NAACP's Kenny Pleasant said. How is it possible that two officers couldn't restrain a "tiny" 30-year-old woman without using guns? Lyles was shot and killed by police on Sunday after police say she came at them armed with a knife. They asked her about the video game console she reporting stolen.

She said her sister had been arrested earlier this month, with a weapon in her hand, after getting into a confrontation with her child's father. According to Andre Taylor, the brother of Che Taylor, the family has been put in touch with attorney James Bible, who represented Che's family after he was fatally shot by Seattle police in previous year. She pleaded not guilty to two counts of harassment and obstructing a police officer.

Before entering her apartment, officers can be heard on audio recording saying Charleena had been "talking all insane about how the officers weren't gonna leave". They discuss a previous interaction Lyles had with law enforcement - and the fact that she was the subject of an "officer safety caution".

Nikkei rises on Wall Street gains, other Asian indexes fall
The 20-year yield was last unchanged at 0.560 percent after rising to 0.570 percent earlier in the session. US stocks were poised for a flat opening with Dow futures and the broader S&P 500 futures unchanged.

The officers get her name then she invites them into her house to show them that some of her possessions were missing.

Lyles's family members revealed that she was several months pregnant, struggling with mental health issues over the past year, and concerned that the authorities would take her children, one of whom reportedly has Down syndrome.

"Do our lives really matter to them?"

Despite an attempt at CPR, Ms Lyles died at her home.

The video timestamp shows that they enter the unit at approximately 9:37 a.m. At 9:38, one of the officers' arms can be seen in the doorway.

Family members spoke Tuesday at a vigil for Lyles outside her apartment building, calling Lyles as a good person and demanding justice.

"We are here today grieving over another devastating encounter between the African-American community and the police", Murray said.

A court-appointed monitor overseeing use-of-force reforms has found that in responding to roughly 10,000 incidents a year in which people are in behavioral crisis, Seattle officers use force just 2 percent of the time. I would've honestly preferred police to consider even backing out of the apartment and reassessing the situation instead of using lethal force.
