Girl's actions caused her to fall from NY park ride

Man catches teen falling from park ride: 'It's OK let go!' - KOAA.com | Continuous News | Colorado Springs and Pueblo

A teenage girl escaped serious injury after falling 7.6m from an amusement park ride in upstate NY - and into the arms of a crowd that had gathered below to catch her. Police released no other details on what the girl may have done to cause her to slip under the restraining bar.

Officials said it appeared that the teen, who is from DE and was riding with her younger brother, was either not paying proper attention or was fooling around to slide underneath the bar.

Suddenly the girl plummeted to the ground before being caught by several people.

Independent safety experts said there was "no way" she would have fallen unless she was "misbehaving" in some way by not sitting entirely still, as the ride instructs.

"I couldn't let that little girl die", Howard told the Associated Press.

The accident happened on the Sky Ride at Six Flags Great Escape Amusement Park, about 55 miles north of Albany, New York.

Fernando Alonso's stoppage in FP2 for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has been confirmed as a gearbox problem but both McLaren drivers will still receive grid penalties this weekend.

"We were just about to leave The Great Escape a Six Flags theme park, when I hear screams of a girl calling for help!" Howard, a contractor from Schenectady, New York, took the brunt of the fall and was taken to the Albany Medical Center for a minor back injury.

The Sheriff's Office said the girl fell from the vehicle, hit a tree as she fell. The park remains closed for an internal review. He said he wouldn't be surprised if they didn't add safety belts or other safety restrictions on the ride in future.

Stockdale said the victim and her family - from Greenwood, Del. - haven't been cooperating with the investigation and have hired an attorney.

"God put us in the right place at the right time".

The unidentified 14-year-old was on the Sky Ride Saturday when the operator got word someone was in distress, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

When Park personnel stopped the ride, one man climbed a nearby tree so he could move the branches out of the girl's path.
