Oregon's legislators just passed a bill protecting women's reproductive rights

Oregon House advances bill that would provide free abortions for residents and illegal immigrants

The state of OR will soon require insurers cover specific health services, including abortions, at no out-of-pocket cost to patients. "Prohibits public body's interference with health care provider terminating or assisting in termination of pregnancy of health care provider's patient, if health care provider is acting within scope of provider's license", the measure states. "There [are] no legal restrictions on anyone's right to get an abortion". Anti-choice state legislatures are chipping away at abortion access from all angles, and the Senate is trying to push through a health care repeal bill that would gut Medicaid and penalize people for buying insurance plans that cover abortion.

Republican state Rep. Bill Post said he was "heartbroken" by the vote and predicted the bill would increase the number of abortions in OR by at least 3,000 each year.

It also "requires that the Oregon Health Authority implement a program to reimburse the costs of reproductive health services to individuals who would be eligible for medical assistance if not for their immigration status".

The bill known as the Reproductive Health Equity Act has moved to the Senate after winning approval in the State House.

The bill exempts religious employers and insurers who do not now cover abortion, such as Providence Health & Services. As one of his earliest acts as POTUS, Donald Trump signed a bill to keep federal dollars out of the hands of Planned Parenthood and other family planning services that provide abortion services.

Samsung Opening $380M Manufacturing Plant In South Carolina
The state's Coordinating Council for Economic Development also has approved job development credits for the project. The high-tech plant will employ engineers and a variety of technical and non-technical workers, the company said .

"This awful legislation is just another example of how Oregon's largest abortion provider's only real concern is for their financial bottom line", she stated, as reported by Life News. "It is a woman's right to choose when and if she is ready in her life to have a child".

Republicans said that the exemption was too narrow, while the pro-life group Oregon Right to Life contended that it came with the creation of a program "that will provide free abortions to Providence plan enrollees".

Republican lawmakers tried to block the bill but did not have enough votes to shoot it down. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward, D-Beaverton, a family physician who carried the bill, said in a statement.

House Bill 3391, which will cost the state an estimated $10 million, will also require insurance plans to cover contraception, post-partum care, and screenings for sexually transmitted infections and cancers of the reproductive system. "Oregonians have a right to access reproductive care, but that does not mean OR employers should be forced to forfeit their right to hold true to their deeply held religious beliefs". Make no mistake: "most of this money is going to Planned Parenthood", she emphasized. You can get an abortion at any time for any reason.
