Lakers Trying To Sign Rajon Rondo

NBA Free Agency: Where should Kentavious Caldwell-Pope sign?

The Lakers have finally made a splash in free agency.

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a one-year, $18 million contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

Detroit Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (5) drives to the basket as Orlando Magic forward Terrence Ross (31) defends during the first quarter at Amway Center. Then, the Wizards matched their offer on Porter, and the Pistons renounced the rights to Caldwell-Pope.

Yes, the Lakers were capable of offering more than the Nets, but this way Caldwell-Pope is back on the market for next year's free agency.

Nonetheless, the Nets still have almost $16.5 million remaining in salary cap and have the second-most among teams who were left in pursuit of the shooting guard. Other teams in talks with Caldwell-Pope that have some cap space have been looking to create more, sources said.

Acrobat death fall at Mad Cool festival in Madrid
Green Day posted on Twitter afterwards: "We just got off stage at Mad Cool Festival to disturbing news". U.S. band Green Day went on stage shortly after the accident, apparently unaware of the tragedy.

Caldwell-Pope has made significant strides as a lockdown defender in the past few seasons, and he has continued to work on his offensive game. He's now the Los Angeles Lakers beat writer for Sports Out West. He averaged 11.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 314 career contests since being selected by the Pistons with the eighth overall pick of the 2013 draft.

Caldwell-Pope is a good signing for the Lakers, who look to build around their young core. At one point, in fact, it seemed like George to LA was a done deal.

The Lakers also reportedly remain interested in signing Rajon Rondo, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Like Clarkson, Pope has spent his first few seasons in the National Basketball Association playing for a team that lacked the talent and assets to be a playoff contender.

The Lakers had just exercised their team option on Nwaba in late June. If the things work out the way both sides are hoping to, Caldwell-Pope might be in Lakers uniform for more than one season.
