Wasserman Schultz IT Staffer Arrested at Dulles Airport Trying to Flee Country

U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz and chair of the Democratic National Committee speaks to a reporter before the democratic debate

A tech worker for Debbie Wasserman Schultz was arrested on Tuesday while attempting to flee the country after the FBI seized a smashed hard drive from his house in an ongoing federal probe, a report said.

Awan is a longtime Democratic House staffer who was worked for more than 24 Democrats, including Wasserman Schultz, since 2004.

Tuesday's ChargesAwan pled not guilty on Tuesday to one count of bank fraud during his arraignment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Fox News reported that Awan was arrested at Dulles International Airport Tuesday after buying a ticket to Pakistan on Monday with a return ticket for January.

House authorities began suspecting the Awan family and targeted them for investigation during their search for a secret server that was funneling congressional data off-site.

As soon as the Capitol Police announced they were investigating Awan as central to a criminal scheme "that involved double-charging the House for IT equipment." his network of employers (minus DWS) dropped him like the hot rock he was.

Miller went on to say that Awan did not plead guilty and was released "pursuant to a high-intensity supervision program", which requires Awan to wear a Global Positioning System monitor, remain confined to a 50-mile radius around his home, abide by a curfew, and surrender all of his passports. He declared bankruptcy in 2012, but has made millions of dollars on the House payroll over at least a decade of work for various members, according to a Politico report.

The agent also attested that bank records show $283,000 was wired to two individuals in Pakistan.

In July 2016, Wasserman Schultz resigned from her DNC position after whistleblowing website Wilileaks released hacked emails revealing she and other DNC staff acted to influence the presidential primary process in favor of candidate Hillary Clinton and against US Senator Bernie Sanders. Alvi had "numerous pieces of luggage" and more than $12,000 in cash, Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Brandon Merriman wrote in the affidavit. "They recycled cabinets and lined them along the walls". Majority had cut ties with Awan after the accusations came out, but Wasserman Schultz actually kept him on the payroll in an advisory capacity; that ended Tuesday. "We turned that stuff over".

For months, Wasserman Schultz refused to allow U.S. Capitol Police to have access to her laptop as part of the investigation. They left in a huge hurry.

"I think you're violating the rules when you conduct your business that way and you should expect that there will be consequences", Wasserman Schultz said.
