Incessant Rains Trigger Flood-Like Situation In Gujarat, NDRF Rescues 200 Stranded People

The death toll due to heavy rains and floods across the state stood at 94 till yesterday.

Modi, who flew over the Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Patan districts of North Gujarat, said a team from the Urban Development and Rural Development Ministries would visit the state to assess the damage and suggest both short- and long-term measures.

The rains are expected to continue in the state.

A dozen teams of NDRF have been stationed in various parts of North Gujarat and Saurashtra.

According to Pamkaj Kumar, more than two lakh food packets have been sent to Banaskantha, worst hit district, for distribution from various places.

Meanwhile, military was on Tuesday called out to help in relief and rescue operations in some districts of Gujarat after copious rains caused floods, leaving thousands of people marooned.

Heavy showers pounded parts of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, and affected normal life in the metro cities of Kolkata and Mumbai.

Water-logging on tracks forced the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express to return to Ahmedabad from Mehsana.

Summary: The Ahmedabad city received almost 72 mm of rains in the last 12 hours ending at 11 am today.

On Monday, the overall flood situation in Assam improved considerably with rivers Brahmaputra, Barak and their tributaries showing a receding trend.
