Israel seeks to kick out Al Jazeera

It was unclear when Minister Ayoub Kara's request would take effect

Israel wants to close broadcaster Al Jazeera's local offices and revoke its journalists' press credentials, the communications minister has said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously threatened Al Jazeera over its coverage of violence and security measures at the Temple Mount-Noble Sanctuary compound.

"I congratulate minister Kara, who upon my instructions, took practical steps today to stop Al Jazeera's incitement-filled activities", Netanyahu wote on twitter.

While the proposal will not take immediate effect, Kara confirmed that both the Arabic and English versions of the news channel will be shuttered once the proposal is passed in the Knesset (Israel's parliament).

The move follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's call for the station's offices to be shut down, accusing it of inflaming tensions around Al-Aqsa mosque, the Jerusalem holy site where Palestinians staged an nearly two-week protest last month against Israeli security measures installed after a deadly shootout.

According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli authorities had also sought to shut down the network's satellite transmission into the country.

Brafman also said, "I think this verdict is a reasonably good verdict under the circumstances ... we are 90 percent pleased". When he made bad trades and lost money put into MSMB, he simply attracted more investors by claiming to be making money.

Apart from criticism from Israel, Al Jazeera has been accused by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain of supporting terrorism in the region.

Al-Jazeera was the first Arab satellite news channel to offer a range of views outside of heavily censored state media across the region and extensively covered the 2011 Arab Spring. "And when we see that all these countries have determined as fact that al-Jazeera is a tool of the Islamic State [group], Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran, and we are the only one who have not determined that, then something ludicrous is happening here", he said, adding that the channel "caused us to lose the lives of the best of our sons".

Saudi Arabia and Jordan have both shut Al Jazeera bureaux this year as part of the ongoing "cold war" playing out in the Gulf, which culminated in the full blockade of Qatar.

However, Israel has been consistently accusing Al Jazeera of featuring biased news stories related to the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

"Changing the law in order to shut down a media organisation for political reasons is a slippery slope", association executive secretary Glenys Sugarman said.

The UAE and Egypt have also banned Al Jazeera.
