Facebook Inc (FB) Goes To War Against Clickbait, Fake Play Buttons

Facebook Rolls Out New Video Options

Publishers that adhere to the best practices of Facebook won't see much change in how their posts are distributed.

In a blog post from January 26 2017, staff wrote: "As we continue to understand how our community consumes video, we've realised that we should therefore weight percent completion more heavily the longer a video is, to avoid penalising longer videos".

One of the twenty or thirty worst things about Facebook is when you go to click on a video button to watch a video, because that how you've been trained, only to be pushed through to an article.

As part of ongoing efforts to fight clickbait and improve the integrity of information on Facebook, the social media firm has announced new algorithms are now in place to demote stories with fake video play buttons.

In coming weeks, we will see less misleading video on Facebook.

White House elevates status of US Cyber Command
Congress called for Cyber Command to be elevated to a unified combatant command in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act. McCain welcomed the administration's deliberative approach on the issue of separating the NSA from Cyber Command.

Furthermore, spam publishers who try to trick people into clicking links to low-quality websites are also a big problem which the company is facing right now.

By now, most FB users have probably clicked on an article that wasn't what it claimed to be, or clicked a play button expecting it to simply start a video, but were instead directed to an outside website instead.

The company makes frequent changes to the News Feed, typically testing potential features at length before making them official.

With the platform's focus on promoting video, these type of clickbait stories are on the rise. Yesterday, the social network revealed that advertisers can now run exclusively in-stream video ads across Facebook, its ad network Audience Network, or both and that they no longer have to purchase News Feed ad placements first as they did in the past.
