Regional comms minister in dual citizen scandal

National Party deputy leader Fiona Nash has just told the senate that like her boss and fellow minister, Barnaby Joyce, she is a dual British-Australian citizen because of her Scottish-born father.

According to ABC News, Xenophon's father Theodoros was born in Cyprus and came to Australia as a British citizen in 1951. "The suggestion that I could be a British citizen is something that would absolutely horrify my father", Mr Xenophon told The Australian newspaper.

Along with Mr Joyce and Senator Matt Canavan, she is the third Nationals MP to face a High Court battle over dual citizenship.

Nash said that based on advice from the solicitor-general she does not resign from the ministry.

Ms Nash said she has had legal advice that she had not breached rules.

The minister for regional communications, Fiona Nash, is the latest politician to reveal likely dual citizenship, although she will not immediately stand aside.

Nash is deputy leader of the National Party, the junior partner in Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's governing coalition.

Final Defenders trailer gives us the best kind of villain
Weaver's Alexandra is set to force this unwilling team together, as she brings a war to NY , the likes of which it has never seen. What really works are the character dynamics between the main cast, especially once they all start confiding in one another.

It looks like it might be an easier task to list the Australian politicians who are NOT now embroiled in citizenship drama, as yet another one fell victim to the affliction that has taken down so many MPs over the past month.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull this week affected surety, declaring Mr Joyce was "qualified to sit in this House, and the High Court will so hold".

Joyce has since relinquished New Zealand citizenship, but is awaiting a High Court ruling, along with several other politicians who believe they may have dual citizenship.

"My father was born in Scotland in 1927".

"This is simply not good enough". However, that case also found that "it would be wrong to interpret the constitutional provision in such a way as to disbar an Australian citizen who had taken all reasonable steps to divest himself or herself of any conflicting allegiance".

Nash's case illustrates how far section 44 (i) can reach.

This would be the second resort within 18 months to the anti-democratic powers held by the Queen's representative, after Turnbull a year ago asked the governor-general to prorogue the parliament to pave the way for a double dissolution election of both houses.
