Donald Trump tells Guam missile threat will be great for tourism

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

"In front of this threat, the global community should act concretely, firmly and efficiently". Already, the new red line he set in his "fire and fury" riposte is making America's allies wonder if US policy on North Korea will ever be coherent or reliable with Trump at the helm.

Trump told reporters on Thursday that he would respond if something happened "in Guam", but did not address the North's more specific threat of striking around the perimeter of the island. The leaders discussed "the need to confront the increasingly risky situation associated with North Korea's destabilizing and escalatory behavior", the White House said in a statement. It also said that the two "reiterated their mutual commitment to denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

The president also saluted Xi for China's recent United Nations vote to impose tougher sanctions on North Korea, in response the country's escalating pursuit of nuclear weapons, according to the White House.

The governor of Guam, Eddie Baza Calvo, posted a video on Facebook of himself speaking with Trump.

North Korea's successful launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the US mainland has resulted in considerable discussion around the planet. "This is tragicomedy of its own making".

"It's never been a vehicle for negotiations and this doesn't constitute substantive U.S. -DPRK dialogue", he said, using the acronym for North Korea's formal name, Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

"The powerful revolutionary Paektusan army of the DPRK, capable of fighting any war the USA wants, is now on the standby to launch fire into its mainland, waiting for an order of final attack", it said.

"We just want peace, we just want to continue to enjoy our lives here". The Trump administration attempted to convince the Philippines to exclude North Korea from the ASEAN forum, and is pushing Myanmar to suspend its military ties with the country.

United States president Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone on Saturday and agreed to work together on a crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the White House said in a statement.

North Korea is angry about new United Nations sanctions over its expanding nuclear weapons and missile program and the upcoming military drills between Washington and Seoul.

The missile plans were previously announced, and Kim said North Korea would conduct the launches if the "Yankees persist in their extremely risky reckless actions on the Korean Peninsula and its vicinity" and that the United States should "think reasonably and judge properly" to avoid shaming itself, the news agency said.

Japan's government made a decision to deploy its Patriot missile defence system to four locations in the west of the country, media reported.

The ministry did not confirm whether Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera has already issued an order to shoot down incoming missiles. North Korea has since developed a nuclear weapons program, and U.S. intelligence agencies now believe the communist regime is close to perfecting a delivery system for those weapons that can reach the continental United States. Trump's comments, however, do not appear to be backed by significant military mobilization on either side of the Pacific, and an important, quiet diplomatic channel remains open. "In the President's words they are behind us '1,000 percent.' As the head of the Government of Guam, I appreciate their reassurances that my family, my friends, everyone on this island, are all safe".
