Liverpool Unveil New Signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at St Georges Park on August 30, 2017 in Burton-upon-Trent, England.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been insistent that he wanted to keep the midfielder and described his player as the future of the club as recently as Friday.

The transfer window closes on Thursday at 11pm United Kingdom time.

Chelsea had agreed a fee with Arsenal for the England global earlier in the week, but sources said that the player rejected the chance to move to Stamford Bridge, with the BBC reporting that he was concerned the champions planned to use him at wing-back.

The England global completed his move to Anfield on deadline day after initially turning down a move to Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Merseyside club could find themselves active on deadline day up until the very final minutes of the window, with a few departures and arrivals being mooted.

In addition, Adam Lallana and Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho are still to return from injury and Carragher, while agreeing the 24-year-old adds depth, can not see him getting into the team in that spot.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's move to Liverpool looks set to be confirmed imminently.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24 still has a year left on his contract but has made a decision to move on to secure more first team action.

He will become Liverpool's second most expensive signing after Guinea worldwide Naby Keita, who will join the club from next season after the Reds triggered a £48m release clause in the RB Leipzig midfielder's contract.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined the Gunners from Southampton in 2011, made 198 appearances for the north London club, scoring 20 goals. "I'm going to be interested to see how that one plays out really", he added.

He has started each of Arsenal's four games so far this season.

Liverpool have also been pursuing Monaco's £75m-rated winger Thomas Lemar and Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk, while the Reds' Brazil forward Philippe Coutinho remains Barcelona's number one transfer target.
