Cleveland police plan on protesting NFL national anthem demonstrations by boycotting anthem

Cleveland Police Union Pushes Back On Browns Protest, Refuses To Hold Flag At Game

The Cleveland police union announced that their members will not be holding the American flag for a pregame ceremony for the Cleveland Browns' first game on September 10th.

Loomis said the Browns are aware of the union's plans and sent him a statement saying they were "disappointed" the officers were not "honoring their commitment" to help hold the flag.

Yes, how dare they show appreciation for the armed forces while defending their players' rights to use the freedoms the armed forces and police always brag about defending.

The Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association members also are refusing to participate in the flag ceremony. That respect is not shared by Loomis, who's showing his disdain for national anthem protests by protesting the national anthem.

Cleveland.com interviewed Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association President Steve Loomis, who complained that the Browns' gesture before an August 21 game against the New York Giants was "offensive".

"When management allows you to do those things, then that's on them", said Steve Loomis.

NFL Notes: Kizer to start next preseason game
He has a strong arm that can produce big plays - like the eye-popping sideline throw to Corey Coleman for 32 yards. Perhaps being featured on the HBO Sports series "Hard Knocks" is not a good thing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

At halftime of the Browns' game against the Giants on August 21, when the pregame kneeling took place, the Browns explained that while they feel their players should honor the anthem, the organization makes personal freedom a priority.

Regardless of the Browns' stance, we can definitely see why those tasked with serving and protecting would take issue with holding up a flag the players themselves are seemingly protesting. That's the very representation of what we stand for.

Loomis also told Cleveland.com that he felt offended because players not are disrespecting those who protect and serve the nation. "We're not going to participate".

The union has the right to protest a protest, the same as the players have the right to protest in the first place.

Chief Williams said Sunday that the Browns organization has been a longtime partner of the Cleveland Police Department and that partnership will continue. "The Division of Police is in no way boycotting the Browns", public information officer Jennifer Ciaccia told HuffPost, "nor denying participation in events with our officers".

Loomis was furious that Browns managers had known ahead of time about the protest and still allowed it to move forward.
