The latest evolution in Trump Jr's Russian Federation scandal story

Trump Jr. to testify in Senate, Manafort lawyer subpoenaed: CNN

He had repeatedly said allegations of Russian connections to the USA election and the ensuing investigations are merely an excuse by Democrats to explain Trump's upset win over Clinton.

In July, the Judiciary Committee initially called on Trump Jr.to testify about Russia's attempted meddling in the election, but Trump Jr. and Manafort made a deal with the committee to avoid a public hearing, paving the way for a transcribed interview in private.

Donald Trump Jr.is appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday to talk Russian Federation - particularly the now-infamous 2016 meeting he took with a Kremlin-connected attorney he believed had dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Futerfas confirmed the proposed meeting in an email to POLITICO.

The Senate panel's leaders, Sens.

The new Federal Bureau of Investigation director who replaced James Comey has revealed whether Trump or this administration interfere in the Russian Federation probe conducted by the special counsel.

Trump Jr.'s acknowledgement that he always meant to seek advice from his lawyers before he used any of the information he got from the Russian lawyer is the first clear indication that the president's son was aware that accepting damaging information on a political rival from a foreign source could run afoul of US law.

Thursday's statement affirmed what has previously been reported about that meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, also attended by Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, campaign chairman Paul Manafort and others.

Another Senate panel, the intelligence committee, is also weighing an interview with Trump Jr.

Trump Jr. was promised the information by Mark Goldstone, a British music publicist, who said in an email it was part of Russia's effort to help the elder Trump become President.

Trump Jr entered the Capitol under cover and did not speak with reporters. Long story short, he eventually released the emails in which the meeting was set up.

"We want to do this in a thorough way that gets the most information possible", Warner said.

Trump's statement that he planned to seek help from his lawyers "suggests that he knew, or at least suspected, that accepting potentially damaging information about a rival campaign from a foreign country raised thorny legal issues", The Times wrote.

Asked whether the committee can finish its probe this year, Warner said, "If certain folks come forward and acknowledge a whole bunch of stuff, who knows, it could happen earlier", though he sounded doubtful. Several congressional committees are also looking into the matter, with the Senate and House intelligence committees conducting the main congressional investigations.

Separately, Susan Rice, who was national security adviser for former President Barack Obama, testified on Tuesday before the House Intelligence Committee for about four hours. Believed to be affiliated with the Kremlin, Veselnitskaya has been lobbying on Russia's behalf to try to lift the Magnitsky Act, which put stiff sanctions on Russian businesses and enraged Russian President Vladimir Putin, leading him to ban Americans from adopting Russian children.
