Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson out for rest of season

The team announced that Jimmy Nelson's shoulder will sideline him for the remainder of 2017.

Nelson has a 3.49 earned-run average. Considering the Brewers were being built to win in another year or two more so than right now, they can't afford to be down a man at any position for the stretch run.

On Friday, Counsell and general manager David Stearns acted like they weren't bothered by the Cubs' request to change the day's gametime to give them more rest ("Sleep's a bipartisan issue, man", Counsell said.), but if Milwaukee needed a late-season "They don't respect us!" rallying cry, maybe that was it. At times this season, he was productive. Kyle Schwarber, who didn't start the game, saved the Cubs from their second-straight scoreless outing with a solo homer in the eighth inning.

The 28-year-old injured his shoulder while sliding back to first base in Friday's 2-0 win over the Cubs, and while it's unclear if the issue will require surgery to fix, it will leave him sidelined until 2018 regardless. Josh Hader is a former starter in the minor leagues, and while he has been tagged with a couple of losses in recent weeks, he's an option to pick up a couple of extra outs throughout the course of a few games. He went out to pitch the bottom of the fifth before leaving the game with seven strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Medium-sized black hole seen lurking in the Milky Way
These findings offer strong evidence of a mid-sized black hole , though it is not clear how it might have come to that location. According to computer models, the most likely cause was a black hole , not more than 1.4 trillion kilometres across.

"I think it just kind of reminds us that these guys, they don't look at us as the team to beat", Montgomery said.

The Brewers were dealt a crappy hand today, but with some imagination they should be able to stay afloat in both of their races for a playoff spot.

Yet, here they are, playing meaningful games with September's chill in the air. The Brewers didn't come to Wrigleyville to get buried, symbolically or otherwise. "So it just kind of reminds us that we really gotta bring it against them". But somewhere, somebody is warming up her pipes.
