Russian Federation and South Korea at odds over North Korea sanctions

Vladimir Putin criticises US sanctions as he says President Trump is 'not my bride'

North Korea fired the ICBMs at highly lofted angles in July to reduce ranges and avoid other countries.

Putin echoed a phrase told by former Pakistan Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the father of Benazir Bhutto, who in 1965 said that Pakistanis "will eat grass, even go hungry" to acquire nuclear weapons.

All this is unfolding as Russia's relations with Washington have plummeted amid allegations of interference in the United States elections, sanctions and tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions.

And while he has criticised recent missile tests as "provocative", he's also taken pains to explain them.

While Putin reiterated Moscow's opposition to new sanctions against North Korea, he told reporters he had assured South Korean President Moon Jae-in that Moscow condemns North Korea's nuclear test and thinks it "flagrantly violates" global law.

"One should not give in to emotions and drive North Korea into a corner", said Putin after a meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the Eastern Economic Forum.

The North's Sunday test, which was its largest nuclear detonation, was met with worldwide condemnation, and drew a stern rebuke from Defense Secretary James Mattis who warned that any threat to the USA or its allies "will be met with a massive military response - a response both effective and overwhelming".

"Everyone remembers well what happened to Iraq and Saddam Hussein". The country was destroyed... "An oil embargo, if properly enforced, surely would do the latter", wrote Benjamin Katzeff Silberstein, an associate scholar at the Foreign Policy Research Institute who writes the North Korean Economy Watch. Rather, offering an end to sanctions would be a better incentive for the North to end its weapons programs, he said. "Certainly, the North Koreans will not forget it. Sanctions of any kind are useless and ineffective in this case".

After meeting Moon, Putin again urged that dialogue is the only way out of the crisis.

After waiting in line for hours, man offers last generator to stranger
Store managers said they're unsure if they'll receive another shipment of generators since each store in the state needs more. Brekke said her father is on oxygen, and that she was concerned that Hurricane Irma could knock out power in her home.

"It smells of freshness, and of our deep respect for our leader", the woman declared, smiling to the Russian TV camera. "And if we work together and develop the Far East, we will succeed in everything", he concluded.

September 7, 2017 (EIRNS)-Russian Far East Development Minister Aleksandr Galushka told TASS today that at a meeting yesterday, a delegation from North Korea, led by its Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Kom Young-jae, came with their own proposals of possible areas of cooperation with Russia. "We will be working hard on this".

President Donald Trump - in tweets after the North's test on Sunday - faulted South Korea for what he called its "talk of appeasement" toward the North, and didn't specifically mention that the U.S.is obligated by treaty to defend its ally in the event of war. A total of 1,004 South Koreans over the age of 19 were polled by telephone, it said.

Moscow exports about 40,000 tons of oil to Pyonyang, a tiny percentage of Russia's overall trade, Putin said, according to Yoon. Russia, the host country, is uniquely placed to play the role of facilitator. It can talk to Pyongyang to raise its comfort level and integrate North Korea in regional cooperation, while also easing South Korea's existential angst. Despite Mattis' declaration that such American promises are "ironclad", Pyongyang's potential ability to strike an American city with nuclear weapons will naturally affect USA strategic thinking.

In the given situation, Russian diplomacy becomes optimal.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov notified his U.S. counterpart Rex Tillerson about that development during a phone conversation on Tuesday.

"The "In" in my name also means "tiger"," Moon noted. "We are running our governments", Putin told a reporter at an economic summit in China.

"Our whole concept does not allow for the isolation and strangulation of North Korea, and the weakening of the regime", he explains.
