Rouhani: Iran to boost missile capabilities

Rouhani plane

It permits Iran to use nuclear power for civil purposes, but not to build nuclear weapons. That is what it is striving for.

Footage aired by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Friday showed the missile launched from an unknown location.

The timing of the test was not disclosed by the broadcaster, although officials had said yesterday that it would be tested "soon".

President Rouhani has vowed to strengthen Iran's ballistic missile programme, defying American warnings that Tehran was breaching its nuclear pact with the West.

In August, Trump signed a new sanctions bill against Iran for its continued development of ballistic missiles, among other charges.

Though Iran has long boasted of having missiles in the same range in its arsenal, it was the first time that the Khorramshahr missile was displayed in public.

That makes them only medium-range, which is still sufficient to reach Israel or United States bases in the Persian Gulf.

According to Press TV, the missile is capable of carrying multiple warheads and has a range of 2,000km.

It comes after the U.S. announced fresh sanctions on Iran in July over its ballistic missile programme.

Apple TV 4K Finally Catches Up to Its Competitors
The magazine and digital news service rated the Apple TV 4K 4 out of 5 based on its "gorgeous high-fidelity video". Apple also announced last week that it will upgrade customers' previous purchases to 4K free of charge.

"It has the potential to carry nuclear warheads, but I am skeptical as to whether it can carry multiple ones because nuclear warheads are so large", said Fitzpatrick, who also heads the think tank's Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Policy Programme.

Rouhani on Wednesday called Trump's speech to the United Nations. In a speech before congress in 2015, he described it as a "very bad deal" that "could well threaten the survival of my country".

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addresses world leaders at the 72nd UN General Assembly at UN headquarters in NY on September 19, 2017.

The latest test from Iran comes just weeks after North Korean tested its own ballistic missile, firing a missile that travelled over Japan and landed in the Pacific Ocean.

Irans's President Hassan Rouhani is determined to strengthen Iran's missile capabilities, brushing aside criticism from the US.

President Trump has promised over and over again to adopt a much harder line in the direction of Iran, intimidating at numerous time to negotiate or maybe take apart this 2015 nuclear option, as well as blast Iranian boats out from the waters should they pressure United states naval ships.

"We need nobody's permission to defend our territories", he said.

The possibility that Washington might renege on the deal has anxious some countries, especially as the world grapples with North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile development.
