Trump Lashes Out at GOP Opponents of Health Care Bill

Sen. Collins says she's leaning 'no' on Graham-Cassidy health care bill

An emotional TV advertisement featuring the mother of a grown woman with cerebral palsy is set to air urging Senate Republicans not to vote for the GOP health care bill.

Addressing Cassidy-Graham at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Cruz said, "right now, they don't have my vote. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried", McCain said.

Collins reiterated some of what's giving her pause, including the major changes the bill would make to medicaid, potential impact on premiums and deductibles and what she fears would be lesser protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

To make a September 30 deadline, Republican senators meant to bring the bill offered by Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY) could ultimately back the Graham-Cassidy health reform bill, which aims to repeal and replace Obamacare. However, Paul has unexpectedly backed similar repeal efforts in the past, voting in favor of the failed "skinny repeal" proposal back in July. But that maneuver will expire at the end of the month.

The measure would end the Affordable Care Act's requirements that individuals have insurance and that most employers provide it. The measure would shift money Obama's law uses to help people afford coverage into block grants states would control in spending formulas heavily tilted toward helping Republican-led states.

Trump defended the bill, tweeting: "Large Block Grants to States is a good thing to do".

In the press release, the aforementioned medical groups claim that the Graham-Cassidy plan would be impossible to implement within a year. "But that has not been the case", he said in a statement on Friday. "John McCain shows the same courage in Congress that he showed when he was a naval aviator".

North Korea says seeking military 'equilibrium' with US
Trump's comments came a day after Kim vowed North Korea would complete its controversial nuclear weapons ambitions. She said , however, that options for dealing with the regime of Kim Jong Un are not limited to diplomacy.

"I hope that in the months ahead, we can join with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to arrive at a compromise solution that is acceptable to most of us, and serves the interests of Americans as best we can". Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, has also been clear since Graham-Cassidy gained momentum last week that he is opposed to the legislation. "We're going to go back", he said and added: "You can't quit when you have one or two votes short". McCain and Graham are known as some of the closest lawmakers in the Senate.

"We're all in", one senior GOP aide said.

After blasting McCain, Trump on Saturday singled out Paul and Murkowski. That's what the swamp does. "I won't be bribed or bullied".

At a campaign rally for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) to oppose a last-ditch GOP proposal to overhaul the Obama health law, Republicans have nearly run out of time to make substantive changes to Obamacare by a September 30 deadline for action under a special expedited procedure that did not allow for a Senate filibuster, again dealing the President and GOP leaders a bitter defeat on an issue they've campaigned on for the last seven years. Susan Collins said Friday she, too, is leaning against the bill, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska was also a possible "no", making it highly unlikely that McConnell can prevail.

"I haven't given up on him, because I think he may come around, OK?" People with disabilities or chronic diseases, people who have had cancer, and parents of children born with health problems like late-night host Jimmy Kimmel say that could make insurance unaffordable.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has not given any indication about which way she would vote, and her opposition would also scuttle the bill regardless of how Collins eventually decides. Privately, many Republicans have predicted that she will ultimately come out against the bill.
