United Kingdom seeks to ban sale of acid, corrosive substances to underage kids

A loophole in the law allows some people to watch gruesome or inflammatory propaganda without fear of prosecution

The number of acid attacks in the United Kingdom has risen sharply, with police figures suggesting there were more than 400 corrosive substance attacks in the six months to April this year.

The sale of the most corrosive substances to under-18s is to be banned under police powers proposed by the home secretary to tackle the recent spate of acid attacks.

Groundhog Day is here once again: the home secretary Amber Rudd has stressed that end-to-end encryption is bad news - admittedly a view that puts her at odds with former head of GCHQ, Robert Hannigan, who described it as an "overwhelmingly good thing".

Sales of sulphuric acid to all age groups would also be "drastically" limited, given its use in "mother of Satan" homemade explosives. "Endless surgeries. Lives ruined".

The new law will extend an existing ban on possessing and downloading terrorist propaganda on a PC to repeatedly watching it through sites like YouTube, Rudd said Tuesday.

Earlier this year, the government said it sought ways to end acid attacks, in which gangs traveling on mopeds, largely in London, splash corrosive sulfuric acid into the faces of random pedestrians.

"This is how we will help make our communities safer as crime changes".

ISIS Leader Baghdadi Reportedly Heard on New Tape
This is al-Baghdadi's first recorded speech since November 2016, and it comes amid growing speculation over his fate. But U.S. officials have said as recently as August that they believed Baghdadi was alive.

'Acid attacks are absolutely revolting, ' Home Secretary Rudd told party activists at the Conservative Party Conference in the northern English city of Manchester.

After revealing a joint Anglo-Canadian project called Project Arachnid that can, she suggested, crawl the internet identifying images of child sexual abuse, helping to get them taken down, she continued her assertion that technology companies should do more to help governments tap internet communications services.

She added that British security agencies foiled seven terrorist plots thus far in 2017.

'We want them to start using it as soon as they can.

Rudd also called on Internet firms and social media platforms to "act now" and remove extremist content online in a speech before the Conservative Party autumn conference. Our question to them will be "if not, why not".

In its ongoing war against online extremism the United Kingdom government has said it intends to change the law to bring in tougher sentences for people who repeat view terrorist content online - increasing the maximum penalty to up to 15 years behind bars. "And I will demand very clear answers", she threatened.
