'Game Change' Co-Author Mark Halperin Accused of Sexual Harassment by 5 Women

Not Released

MSNBC says journalist Mark Halperin has been suspended from his role as network contributor following charges from five women who claimed he sexually harassed them while he was an ABC News executive. As for the news media covering these stories, Fox News isn't the only outlet reeling from its own internal strife, for NBC News now has its own to deal with.

CNN reported Wednesday night that five women said Halperin had a history of propositioning junior staffers at ABC News and making other unwanted sexual advances. All of the women, former coworkers of Halperin at ABC News, said they did not report these incidents out of fear of retribution.

In a statement to CNN, Halperin apologized for what he termed as "inappropriate" behavior while pursuing "relationships with women that I worked with, including some junior to me".

Established journalist Mark Halperin has been accused of sexual harassment while he was at ABC News. The political commentator is now an analyst for NBC News and Bloomberg Television, makes appearances on MSNBC's Morning Joe segment, and is now developing a project with HBO.

HBO said Thursday that it is spiking plans for a miniseries based on an upcoming book about the 2016 presidential election by Halperin and John Heilemann. The women who spoke to CNN said it was for this reason that they shared their accounts on the condition of anonymity.

O'Reilly Struck $32M Settlement In January Over Harassment Allegations
O'Reilly claimed to the New York Times that he "never mistreated anyone" and claimed he could "prove it". Schmidt reported on five previous settlements with women who had accused the host of sexual harassment .

In response to the report, Mika Brzezinski stated on air, "CNN is reporting allegations regarding our friend Mark Halperin during his time at ABC News over a decade ago".

"The first meeting I ever had with him was in his office and he just came up from behind - I was sitting in a chair from across his desk - and he came up behind me and [while he was clothed] he pressed his body on mine, his penis, on my shoulder", the second woman told CNN. "I just froze. I didn't know what to do".

One woman said that when Halperin was ABC's political director, she went to his office, where she said he kissed her and touched her breasts. "This will explain why so many of you asked why he attacked me on live TV", Miller tweeted.

Halperin has denied the charges of breast grabbing and pushing his genitals onto others at work.
