What You Need To Know About New Airport Security Rules

Emirates flights will be subjected to further enhanced security screening measures as of October 26. Adam Schreck AP

New screening rules went into effect Thursday for all USA -bound airline passengers that could mean more detailed inspections of carry-on bags and electronic devices, as well as security interviews by airlines employees. All passengers traveling to the United States will be subject to new screenings.

South Korea's transport ministry said the United States had agreed to delay the new procedures for the country's two biggest carriers, Korean Air Lines and Asiana Airlines, until next year on the condition they deploy staff at boarding gates to monitor travelers.

Air France said it will begin new security interviews on Thursday at Paris Orly Airport and a week later, on November 2, at Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Airlines said that new security measures for passengers could include short interviews at boarding gates or check-in areas, which could cause longer wait times and delays. In Dubai, Emirates has begun searching carry-on bags and questioning passengers about their luggage, trip origin, and liquids.

The US government announced that travellers on all inbound global flights could be questioned by airline staff before being allowed to board aircraft.

Passengers flying Cathay Pacific to the U.S. can expect to be "interviewed" for security reasons.

Polestar 2 will start production later in 2019 and will be the first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) from the Volvo Car Group. Polestar 1 is a two-door, 2+2 seat Grand Tourer Coupé with an "Electric Performance Hybrid" drivetrain.

Airlines that do not meet new security standards could see a laptop ban for carry-on and checked bags imposed, according to DHS. The strict procedures will extend to unauthorized agricultural or veterinary products.

New security measures for all US-bound flights begin today, following the US Department of Homeland Security's "first round" of enhanced electronics screenings back in July.

Travellers could face more detailed inspection of their electronic devices. "While these are complex security measures, the flexibility provided by DHS has helped to ensure that carriers remain compliant".

Basel Kilani, a spokesman for Royal Jordanian, said Wednesday that the airline will submit questions to passengers before check-in.

The Trump administration has lifted the ban, but it comes with a tradeoff.

In March, U.S. officials instituted the ban on laptops in airplane cabins across 10 Middle East cities over concerns Islamic State fighters and other extremists could hide bombs inside of them. "It's just inconvenient for the passengers". Emirates, the region's biggest, said it slashed 20 per cent of its flights to America in the wake of the restrictions.
