UEFA Champions League Report: Napoli v Manchester City, 01 November 2017

How four English sides can book Champions League knockout spot this week

Sergio Aguero has become Manchester City's all-time leading scorer after netting the team's third goal in its Champions League match against Napoli on Wednesday.

Napoli started the better of the two teams and created the first significant chance on goal in the 13 minute when Dries Mertens broke through on goal, but he was thwarted by the City keeper.

He became City's leading post-war goalscorer last season, netting in a 5-0 FA Cup demolition of West Ham to overtake club great Colin Bell, although Aguero's future in Manchester has been the subject of speculation during Pep Guardiola's tenure as manager.

A fast start from City saw both Leroy Sane and Sterling find space inside the Napoli box in the opening four minutes, but neither could release a strike.

Napoli probable XI: Rina, Hysaj, Albiol.

City won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Etihad and will expect a tough test at the Serie A side.

Aguero scored in the 69th minute in City's Group F match at the Stadio San Paolo in Naples, to go along with goals from Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones and Raheem Sterling to help Man City qualify for the round of 16.

Napoli came close to levelling in the 56th minute when Insigne struck a powerful effort from distance, but the Italian's effort smashed off the crossbar during a strong spell for the home side.

Aguero slammed into the bottom corner past former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina to give City a 3-2 lead in the Wednesday night clash.
