Car crashes into students in France

A French prosecutor said a auto that rammed into a group of students in a city in southwest France on Friday was driven by a man known to have "psychiatric" problems.

The three injured, one male and two female, are all at their early 20s, said the consulate.

At least three people have been hurt in a vehicle attack near Toulouse, Occitanie, in southern France said the French police on Friday, as reported by news agency AFP. La Dépêche du Midi newspaper quoted him as telling police he had heard voices telling him to harm someone.

Officials confirmed the 28-year-old suspect was not on the terrorism watch list, but had been planning the attack for quite some time.

The injured students were believed to be Chinese nationals, the BBC reported.

The BFM news channel said the man was known to police for previous non-terror crimes and officers were checking reports he suffered from major psychological problems, AFP reported.

Couilleau said the driver claimed he acted deliberately and was arrested. Also injured were a 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man.

Several post-18 colleges are located on the campus, including the International Institute of Trade and Development.
