Apple Delays HomePod Speaker to "Early 2018" for US, UK and Australia

Apple's HomePod delayed until next year

"We'll start shipping in the U.S., United Kingdom and Australia in early 2018", an Apple spokeswoman said via email.

If you had the Apple HomePod on your letter to Santa this year, you're going to need to get a replacement up the chimney pronto. It comes with built-in smart assistant like you find on Google Home and Amazon Echo.

It's not clear what the cause for the delay is, especially since the speaker was revealed all the way back in June.

In a statement released on Friday, Apple didn't offer specific reasons for the delay, simply claiming it "needed a little more time" to ideal it.

However, given the brand loyalty of many Apple fans, it's likely many eyeing the HomePod speaker will practice patience and wait for the perfected product to land. Apple's HomePod is aware of how big the room is where it is being placed, and adjusts the sound accordingly for the best experience. It stands 7 inches tall and features six microphones, which will listen for your command to Siri. Apple sets no firm date and just states vaguely that they are planning a release for early 2018. Apple is working to keep its Siri voice assistant relevant in the face of competition from Amazon's Alexa and Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google Assistant, both of which are featured on smart speakers from those companies. HomePod will be a while before we see it on sale and available to the public. We also send freebies and lots of other goodies exclusively to our email subscribers.
