David Cassidy is suffering from organ failure

David Cassidy In Critical Condition ... Organs Failing

Actor David Cassidy is now hospitalized in Florida in critical condition with organ failure, his rep confirmed to ABC News.

Variety reports that Cassidy has organ failure, but his representative did not confirm the reason for 1970s teen idol's hospitalisation.

A representative for David told Express.co.uk: "He was in an induced coma but he is now conscious and surrounded by family".

Cassidy, 67, announced earlier this year he'd been having trouble with memory loss and would no longer perform concerts.

TMZ had reported that David was admitted to a Florida medical center three days ago and was suffering liver and kidney failure.

The rep adds that Cassidy was in pain and taken to the hospital on Wednesday.

"He is hoping and waiting for a liver transplant, if he happens to get one in time, the prognosis is still up in the air", the source told Us.

His family are now said to be at the hospital to be by his side as his condition worsens.

Cassidy, who watched his grandfather battle the disease and witnessed his mother "disappear" into dementia until she died at age 89, told PEOPLE of his diagnosis: "I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming". I want to enjoy life'.
