Tencent Gains Exclusive PUBG Operating Rights In China, Vows To Demolish Cheaters

China isn't locking out PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds yet

The popularity of PLAYERUNKNOWN's Battlegrounds has been well documented, with the game having sold over 20,000,000 copies despite being in early access. Because of that, Tencent said it will work closely with PUBG Corporation and the Chinese authorities to change the game in necessary ways to keep it legal in the country.

The English language press release about Tencent and Bluehole's partnership quotes Tencent's senior VP Steven Ma as saying: "PUBG is now the most popular survival shooter game, and is enjoyed by users all over the world".

Tencent has secured the rights to publish PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds but there will be changes to the game.

Now the company has said that it will "make adjustments to content. and make sure they accord with socialist core values, Chinese traditional culture and moral rules".

Xavi Says Messi Should Stay His Entire Career at Barcelona
Messi's future has been the matter for much debate ever since the terms of his new contract were agreed nearly five months ago.

Tencent will operate the game in the region. Its free mobile games called "Terminator 2" and "Wilderness" are two of the most popular mobile titles in China, and they heavily feature red banners and Chinese government slogans.

Tencent will run the servers for the game and has promised to deal with cheaters.

To avoid criticism over its upcoming release, Tencent has reportedly promised to offer "healthy, positive cultural and value guidance, especially for underage users", according to Reuters. In a statement by PUBG Corp CEO C.H. Kim, the Chinese company will apparently tweak the title to be more palatable to the local players. The game also won "Best Multiplayer Game" and "PC Game of the Year" at this year's Golden Joysticks Awards.
