Andy Rubin takes a leave of absence from Essential

Andy Rubin reportedly had an 'inappropriate relationship' at Google, is temporarily stepping away from Essential

The employee was in Rubin's Android division within Google, which is where the conflict of interest comes from.

Essential spokeswoman Iska Saric said Rubin asked to take a "leave of absence to deal with personal matters" at a board meeting earlier this month, and the board granted his request.

Andy Rubin, the co-founder of Android, has taken a leave of absence from phone maker Essential amid reports he had an inappropriate relationship with a Google employee when he worked there. Anonymous sources say that the internal investigation concluded that Mr. Rubin's behavior was improper and showed bad judgment. He went on to develop Android, which was acquired by Google in 2005.

The report states that a complaint was filed by the woman with HR and an investigation was run after Rubin had left in 2014. So, simplifying the information that's out there thus far - Mr. Rubin had an alleged relationship with an employee at Google, breaking company policy, which may or may not have been a catalyst in his leaving the company.

Dead, 150 Injured After Violent Clashes Between Forces And Islamist Protesters
Protesters, some wearing gas masks, fought back in scattered battles across empty highways and surrounding neighbourhoods. Islamabad city magistrate yesterday issued a warning to protesters to disperse by midnight or face consequences.

Neither Rubin or Essential have given any statements regarding these allegations other than the statements provided by Sitrick as quoted above. A spokesperson for the company said the board agreed to the decision and company President Niccolo de Masi will carry out day-to-day operations at Essential.

At the time of his exit, Rubin was heading Google's newly formed robotics division, a wing that failed to pick up much steam in spite of numerous high-profile acquisitions. Rubin's spokesperson has denies any connection between the leave and the report of inappropriate behaviour.

There is no telling how long Rubin will be absent from Essential.

Rubin left Google in 2014 and founded Essential in 2015 to create smartphones to rival Google's Pixel and Apple's iPhone. According to multiple reports, his departure coincided with the start of Google's investigation.
