Poll position: Sensex surges 301 points, reclaims 33000 mark

The Nifty closed the week with 1.4 per cent gain.

Sentiment bolstered after opinion polls gave an edge to the ruling BJP in crucial Gujarat elections, with investors vouching on current government fast phased economic reforms with political stability is vital for positivity in markets.

The 30-share BSE Sensex opened on a strong footing at 33,034.20 and maintained its upward trend to hit the day's high of 33,285.68 before ending at 33,250.30, up 301.09 points, or 0.91 percent.

However, value-buying in several heavyweights towards the fag-end trimmed the losses, with the index finishing at 32,802.44, down 67.28 points or 0.20%. While the Sensex rose 188 points to 33,137, Nifty was up 63 points to 10,229 level.

The BSE market breadth was bullish - 1,582 advances and 1,110 declines.

Most Asian and European markets rallied as investors awaited major economic data from China and the United States amid overnight gains at Wall Street following reports that President Donald Trump is planning to unveil a big-spending public works plan.

Amazon Prime Video on Apple TV Coming before New Year
Elsewhere, Apple has confirmed the Amazon Prime Video app integrates with the Apple TV app, at least in some countries. In the Apple TV App Store, search for '"Amazon Prime Video" if you are unable to locate the app.

ITC emerged as the top gainer with a 3.44 per cent rise, followed by Tata Motors at 2.21 per cent.

Hero MotoCorp, SBI, Reliance Industries, TCS, Asian Paint and Dr Reddy's succumbed to profit-booking.

The index finally ended at 32949.21, up 352.03 points, or 1.08 per cent - its biggest single-day gain since November 1, when it had surged 387.14 points.

On Thursday, bargain hunting by investors and robust buying in auto, consumer durables and capital goods stocks lifted the benchmark indices. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index gained 194.40 points or 1.08 percent to settle at 18,211.88.

In the Eurozone, key indices such as Paris CAC 40 and Frankfurt's DAX Performance Index were up by 0.32% and 0.55% in their early deals.
