Vivo will have the first smartphone with in-display fingerprint reader

Vivo not Samsung will have the first phone with in-screen fingerprint scanner

Credit: ShutterstockSynaptics, the firm responsible for producing the sensors, has revealed that Chinese phone maker Vivo will be its first customer. The sensor is reportedly "fast and simple" and it's meant to save your phone's battery life by staying inactive when not needed.

It is very intriguing as efforts were being made since very long to integrate the fingerprint sensor into the display and no one had ever imagined that Vivo will be the first to introduce the technology.

If you are a bit curious about the new in-screen sensor created by Synaptics, this is a small CMOS device planted below an AMOLED display. With Clear ID, smartphones are expected to have more flexibility in security functionality. Well, we don't have to wait for next month's CES to find out who that top 5 OEM is, as we now know it is Vivo that will showcase the under-display technology, with Forbes going hands-on with a pre-production unit with Clear ID onboard. Moreover, Synaptics claimed their in-house tech is twice as fast as Apple's Face ID. No release date was announced in the statement but fans are expecting to experience the fingerprint sensor under the screen by 2018. The OLED screen illuminates the fingerprint, and the sensor scans it and sends it back to the processor.

WWE pro wrestler Rich Swann arrested, charged with battery of wife
Per Gagnon, he was scheduled to face Drew Gulak with the top contender spot and a match against Enzo Amore on the line. The arrest stemmed from a domestic incident involving Swann's wife, pro wrestler Su Yung ( Vannarah Riggs ).

From the smartphone makers' point of view, it would solve a few problems for them, since the new normal of the infinity or full screen display becomes easier to provision on the front of their devices and the general sense is that the location of the fingerprint sensor in the rear panel was not quite a comfortable location for it. Synaptics on its part touts the Clear ID FS9500 as a "smart" technology that can detect fingerprints in various lighting conditions, can recognize wet or cold fingers, and detect attempts to spoof fingerprints. Apple, in particular, was highly rumoured to implement the technology for its anniversary special iPhone X but the company went ahead with FaceID, which uses 3D facial mapping for biometric authentication. With Clear ID, Synaptics is looking to offer an even more seamless solution.

Vivo isn't particularly well-known in Western markets, but is popular in India as the fourth-biggest smartphone maker and holds a similar position in China.
