Barack Obama has been named as the "most admired man" by Americans for the 10th year running, nearly a year after leaving the White House. Of those 71 surveys, the incumbent president has won 58 times, the poll noted. Obama is only the second former president to finish first in the list-along with Eisenhower in 1967 and 1968, while Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson was finishing up his time in office. The incumbent president is usually the victor, "since he is arguably the most prominent figure in the country", Gallop stated in its news release.

Seventeen percent of those polled found that Barack Obama was the most admired man living anywhere in the world, a title he's had for the past 10 years. Nine percent name a relative or friend as the most admired man, and 13 percent do so for the most admired woman. A Gallup poll released earlier this month showed the share of US adults holding a favorable opinion of Clinton had dropped to 36 percent, a new low.

The consulting company released its results on Wednesday after interviewing a random sample of 1,049 adults from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Gallup, however, offered that Clinton's time at the top of the "most admired" list may be running out. One percent of those surveyed named first lady Melania Trump their most admired woman, bringing her name into the top tier for the first time.

Clinton "remains arguably more prominent than other contenders", Jones wrote in a blog post announcing the findings.
