Jake Tapper cuts off contentious interview with Trump aide Stephen Miller

White House special adviser Stephen Miller defends US President Donald Trump on the CNN show State of the Union

"I'm sure he's watching and he's happy that you said that", Tapper responded.

"Because it's my show and I don't want to do that", Tapper jabbed.

It went downhill from there.

Shortly after, Trump tweeted his approval of Miller's appearance.

With that, Tapper cut off Miller and tossed to commercial.

Miller on Sunday echoed the language of the White House's statement to attack Bannon as well as CNN.

'And the whole White House staff is deeply disappointed in his comments, which were grotesque, ' he said, using the adjective again. At Breitbart, where Bannon is chairman, there was even debate among the company's leaders over whether they could force Bannon from his top perch.

The White House has been on the defensive since excerpts of the book were published last week with the president and his aides scrambling to discredit both its portrayal of Trump and the author's methods.

Mr Wolff said members of the Trump White House speak openly about the option, saying things like: "We're not at a 25th Amendment level yet", or "Ok, this is a little 25th Amendment". Miller shot back that he was "getting to the issue of your fitness", adding that Trump is a "self-made billionaire" who is speaking for the "people that you don't connect with".

Turkey's Erdogan says to discuss defence cooperation in France
Local and worldwide rights groups have accused Ankara of using the putsch bid as a pretext to silence opposition in the country.

From there, the conversation was more about CNN. Bannon referred to a 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr and a Russian Federation lawyer at Trump Tower as "treasonous" and suggested that it was highly likely that Trump Jr told his father about the meeting.

Bannon is quoted in the book saying special counsel Robert Mueller was "going to crack Don Jr like an egg on national TV".

Miller replied that Bannon's role "has been greatly exaggerated, whereas the president hasn't gotten the due that he deserves".

"It's tragic and unfortunate that Steve would make these grotesque comments so out of touch with reality and obviously so vindictive", said Miller. When he delivers information to Trump nearly daily, the President engages with it and is an "avid consumer" of the CIA's work, Pompeo said.

Miller, in his defense of the president, called him a "political genius" who could rattle off complete paragraphs on the fly in response to news events and then deliver them "flawlessly" to a campaign audience.

"The president is a political genius...who took down the Bush dynasty, who took down the Clinton dynasty, who took down the entire media complex", he said.

"That was a snide remark", he said.

"You get 24 hours of negative anti-Trump hysterical coverage on this network", Miller said. Tapper finally interjected. "And I think I've wasted enough of my viewers' time".

Trump's perception was curious, because Miller had not "destroyed" Tapper.

Tapper also asked about Trump's tweets on Saturday about how he was a "very stable genius" and "like, really smart" and questioned Miller on whether those assertations were helpful to Trump's cause.
